Infrared Asphalt Repairs

An infrared road repair or an infrared pothole repair is joint-free. This lengthens the lifespan of the repair and creates a safer surface for cyclists, pedestrians and motorbikes. A typical pothole repair can be completed with just machine and two operators in approximately 20 minutes, meaning less disruption to traffic. This can be used on road repairs, pothole repairs, trench surface repairs, and reinstatement of failed joints and seams particularly street furniture.

Once heated the area is raked, rejuvenation,  liquid added and depressions topped up with fresh, hot asphalt.

Highway Engineers have been put under increasing pressure to find ways of maintaining the country’s roads under a burden of reduced budgets, increased traffic flow and environmental considerations. The Government’s attempts to reduce the amount of waste material ending up in landfill sites by introducing the Landfill Tax and this year trying to reduce the amount of new material being extracted from quarries using the Aggregates Tax, has meant that a new method of highway repair was essential. The cost of traditional patching was increasing every year, the cost of disposal was up, purchase of fresh tarmac was up and labour and plant costs were also increasing.

Tarmac recycling

The use of modern technology to satisfy these financial pressures and Local Agenda 21 (the international environmental agreement) which has now been introduced into patching repairs on the Highway. Using Infrared technology, the asphalt road surface is heated up, recycled and re‑laid in minutes as a real alternative to traditional patching methods. For example using traditional methods a typical trench repair used 16 tonnes of new asphalt, whereby using the infrared system and recycling, in-situ, the existing surface material 1 tonne was used, resulting in a reduction of 15 tonnes of perfectly good, recyclable material being sent to landfill and a huge reduction of the carbon footprint.

Infra Red Trench Repair (Hot Bonded, Seamless, "Water tight" Repair)

These can also be easily repaired because of the system's flexibilty and manoeuverability.
